Hold Please

This New York Times story, linked above, relates how customer services lines are monitored “to assure quality assurance” — even when we’re on hold. So be careful! Fortunately, most of the worst things I’ve said were about Barnes and Noble’s dismal prices, selection, customer service, etc., when on the phone with them. Fortunately, I’ve used up my Rewards Certificates with them and will use Amazon from now on. Interestingly, according to buyblue.org, BN gives money (invests?) to the Democratic Party, while Amazon donates to the Republican party.

Oh dear. I suppose if buying books is a way to save the world, as David Brooks describes shopping in Bobos in Paradise, I’d shop at Laissez Faire Books more often. They do beat Amazon’s pricing, and hence BN’s, too. And I thought along the lines of Milton Friedman: The Social Responsibility of Business is to Increase its Profits. Yes, I’m surprised that I’m the only one to have put this article on-line.
